Moisturize and Sealing Your Tresses
How to Moisturize and Seal
Water and water-based products should be used as a first step. This is because water is a true moisturizer, and the molecules penetrate your hair’s cuticles to work from within. Although you’ll find many products that bear the “moisturizer” label, some of them don’t actually add moisture to your hair; in most cases, they help to hold moisture in if you start with damp or wet hair.
How do you know if a product is water-based? Look at the ingredients label. The first ingredient should be water. Use either a product like this or regular water.
You can start with fresh hair by using HAIRFINITY Gentle Cleanse Shampoo and Balanced Moisture Conditioner. Wet your hair with a spray bottle full of water, or apply the water-based product of your choice. Be sure to dampen the ends of your hair. Since this is the oldest, and often driest, part of your mane, it requires extra attention.
Next, apply a carrier oil to seal in the moisture. Carrier oils include olive, coconut, avocado, jojoba, sweet almond and sunflower. Because these oils are so concentrated, you don’t need to apply a large amount. Start off with a small bit of oil and see how your hair feels once it’s dry. You can always add more if needed, but remember to apply it to dampened hair.
Focus on the ends of your hair, working more oil onto them. As a final step, you can add a heavier, creamy product like shea butter or castor oil for additional moisture.
You may find that daily moisturizing and sealing, at least on the ends of your tresses, helps maintain soft, supple hair. However, choose the frequency that best works for you, whether it’s just a couple of times per week or every night.
