Lace front wigs have long been popular among the likes of Janet Jackson, Tyra Banks and Beyonce. Now they are becoming increasingly popular for normal folks because they look natural and are very easy to wear. Lace front wigs represent the latest technology for non-surgical hair replacement in the world today. A lace front wig, when designed and constructed properly, will be the closest thing to your own hair. Lace front wigs are sized and shaped perfectly according to the person’s head by expertly knotting hair onto an invisible lace base. Lace wigs can be ordered in French Lace or Swiss Lace. French lace is more durable and will hold up better over time. The Swiss lace is slightly thinner and more fragile. Most people order the French lace due to its durability. If applied properly, both caps will give you the undetectable hairline finish you’re looking for. Lace fronts can be applied with a variety of adhesives, from tape to silicone glue. It is the most natural, most beautiful, hair enhancement or replacement system imaginable today.  It is made out of real human hair and hand tied into a very sheer lace base one single hair at a time. It also protects your hair and scalp from the dangerous heat of the sun and daily styling implements. It should look so natural that it can be virtually undetectable to anyone, even at a distance of only a few inches away. There are no limitations to your look or lifestyle. You can shower, sleep, perm, wash or do anything you would normally do. You can wear it for weeks at a time without removing it. You can comb your hair straight back, part it in the middle or even go swimming with it. If you are the kind of a person who wants a stunning hairstyle without wasting your time on other useless, damaging and expensive alternatives, its time you got a lace front wig. You will be looking like a celebrity in no time. You can finally have the hair you always dreamed about!

Building an effective and consistent hair care regimen can sometimes be quite daunting; but once you’ve got the hang of it, the results will be astounding. That’s just about the time our eyes get lured away with the newest shampoo, fast growth conditioners, diamond shine polishers, or the latest, greatest flat iron. This is the PJ (product junkie) stage! We all experience it in some degree during our journey to healthy hair. Whether its 20 bottles of Suave conditioner or 1 bottle of $40 conditioner; we all look for that “magic” product to give us the best hair advantage. Although, we know that no product will yield overnight success, there are some very helpful regimen extras that might give you the extra boost you need. Some additional regimen tips include:

  1. Pre-shampoo treatments – these treatments help to protect and prepare the hair shaft. Harsh detergents in shampoo can often dry the hair out. A pre-treatment helps create a barrier against damage. Pre-treatments may be conditioners, oils, or homemade preparations. One of my favorites is 1 part extra virgin olive oil, 1 part unrefined coconut oil, 1 part honey, and half of finely mashed avocado (optional). Applied root to tip and left on for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  2. Hot Oil treatments- these are pretty self-explanatory. You can use any natural oil, such as olive, jojoba, sesame, avocado, hemp, emu, safflower, coconut, amla, carrot. The warm oil can be applied to wet or dry hair. However, on dry hair, wrapping oiled hair in a warm, moist towel helps the oil to penetrate better. Leave on for 15-30 minutes.
  3. Overnight oil treatments- these treatments are the same has hot oil treatments, but they are covered with a plastic cap and left in the hair overnight. This is an excellent tip for those with super dry hair or brittle ends. Overnight oil treatments allow maximum penetration into the hair shaft; this helps to increase softness, sheen, and elasticity.
  4. Add-Ins- “add-ins” are simply those extra things that you can mix into your commercial products for extra, conditioning, moisture, strength, or shine. Some of my favorites are peppermint essential oil, honey, coconut milk, natural oils, avocado, yogurt, and herbal powders. Add-ins can be used in shampoos and conditioners.
  5. Scalp Massage-Stimulates blood flow and helps feed the hair follicles. It also helps to prevent and fight hair loss. Massaging the scalp helps keep your hair healthy and can also promote hair growth. Try massaging your scalp for 5-10 minutes everyday!

Conditioners work by smoothing out the outer layer of the hair shaft. This hair has a tendency to split away from the rest of the hair and cause fly away or dry frizzy looking hair. The conditioner is supposed to smooth down these individual hairs and let them be combed and styled without breaking away and splitting. There is a hair care product that is great for ensuring smoothness and continued conditioning of your hair. That product is a leave in conditioner. Regular cream rinse conditioners are typically left in for a few minutes and then rinsed away. But the products that are made from ingredients that can be left in your hair all day long are the most effective. They keep working all day; well after your hair care routine is finished. Leave-In conditioners and treatments are great topical solutions; they are packed with botanical extracts that improve scalp and follicle health while restoring luster and manageability. Many conditioners also help detangle by adding lubrication and smoothness to help separate hair strands. This speeds up drying time and significantly reduces breaking by improving strength and elasticity to the hair shaft. Other benefits include:

  •        Increased shine and luster
  •       Protection and repair of split-ends and frizziness
  •      Sunscreen protection
  •      Improves moisture content of dull or dry hair
  •     Helps repair damaged hair

To improve shine, body, and to add luster to dry or dull hair, use a leave-in conditioner following drying for increased protection and color maintenance. You’ll reduce breaking, split-ends and frizziness while repairing and protecting damaged hair. Some great leave-in conditioners currently available include: Giovanni Direct, Aphogee Pro-Vitamin, Infusium, Sebastian Potion #9, Neutrogena Triple Moisture, Aussie Hair Insurance, Matrix Biolage Daily, TIGI Bed Head Moisture Maniac, Keracare, African Royale Daily Doctor, and Motions Nourishing.

Moisturizing should be done on a daily basis, as the exposure to the elements, and daily heat styling could lead to a dry, brittle hair. In addition, we should be aware of the type of hair we have and use adequate products that address our particular needs - dry, brittle, frizzy hair, etc.
Dry hair is usually the hair that does not have a sufficient amount of natural moisturizer and oil. This can be caused by over-exposure to the sun without protecting the hair, by excessive washing - especially with harsh chemical substances, excessive use of styling products and hot styling methods (blow drier, heat iron), excessive dying of the hair etc. Hair normally has a moisture content of approximately 10%. If your hair’s moisture content drops below this level the key is to increase the hair’s ability of attract and retain moisture. This is accomplished by using moisturizers. Good ones have “humectants” that not only replace lost moisture but actually attract moisture and retain it in the cortex of the hair. Essential fatty acids (EFA’s) are great moisturizers. One of the best and most cost effective essential fatty acids is safflower oil. It is the kind you can buy to cook with. It is rich in EFA’s. Hair vitamins containing biotin are also a good alternative, as biotin promotes the production of fatty acids within the body.

Another essential ingredient is water - that’s right, good old H20. Remember! Oils do not moisturize; they simply help to ensure lasting sheen and pliability by sealing in the water. There are many products on the market to help quench our dry, thirsty locks. When shopping for your perfect moisturizer look for those that contain ingredients such as water, natural oils, and herbal extracts, these are very efficient, as they provide a wide range of nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins vital for the hair and scalp.

For the smoothest, supplest hair, deep conditioning with a moisturizing conditioner cannot be beat. Moisturizing deep conditioners are no doubt the backbone of any healthy hair regimen. For the best moisturizing result, your weekly conditioners should always be super moisturizing. Protein-based deep conditioners should only be used as needed. You may find that you can go quite a while without protein deep conditioning, and that is okay! Keep in mind that many moisturizing deep conditioners also contain some protein. Wheat and silk proteins are the most common gentle proteins in moisturizing deep conditioners. They tend to be extremely gentle and actually enhance the hair’s elasticity by helping moisture bind within the cuticle.

So what should you be looking for in a moisturizing deep conditioner?
1. Fatty alcohols, such as cetyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, and myristyl alcohol, are “hair friendly” alcohols, unlike the drying alcohols found in hair sprays or finishing sheens.
2. Humectants, Emollients draw moisture from the surrounding air to the hair! Common humectants, emollients you want in your moisturizing deep conditioner are propylene glycol, sodium lactate, sodium PCA, hydantoin, glycerin, and polyquarternium.
3. Silicones help with your ability to effectively detangle your wet hair with less damage. Despite their great benefits, “cones” also have a drawback. Too many or frequent use of them will cause buildup on the hair shaft and will eventually lead to dryness from a lack of moisture being deposited within the strand.

To maximize the benefits of your moisturizing conditioner, cleanse hair with a gentle shampoo, rinse thoroughly, apply moisturizing conditioner, sit under medium heat dryer for 30-45 minutes, rinse with cool water, and finish with your favorite moisturizing leave-in.
